Photographing Star trails is in fact a simple task that can produce some brilliant and rewarding images. Stars are made up of gasses that emit colours that we can't see, but cameras can. As the earth rotates the North Star will appear to remain fixed whilst the other stars appear to rotate around it. During long exposures you can capture the motion of the stars as you can see in the pictures below.
